What Is Hypnosis?Unlock Your Mind's Potential Think of a time you've been completely absorbed in a good book or captivated by a scene in your favorite movie. You lose track of time, and the world around you fades away. That focused, relaxed state is a natural form of hypnosis. Clinical hypnotherapy guides you into this same state of deep, relaxed concentration. It's a natural process that allows us to bypass the conscious, critical mind and communicate directly with your subconscious mind—the part of you that holds all your deeply ingrained beliefs, habits, and memories. This powerful tool allows a clinical hypnotherapist to help you identify and release limiting or negative beliefs that are holding you back. By reframing these beliefs at a subconscious level, we can help you create lasting, positive change.

What is Ericksonian Hypnotherapy?Ericksonian Hypnotherapy Ericksonian hypnotherapy is a gentle and modern approach to hypnosis, named after psychiatrist Milton H. Erickson. Instead of giving direct commands, it helps you tap into your own strengths to make positive changes. Key Features: Indirect Suggestions: The hypnotherapist uses gentle language like, "You might start to feel more relaxed," rather than direct orders. This respects your freedom and reduces resistance. Inner Resources: Your unconscious mind already has the wisdom and solutions you need. The therapist guides you in accessing your own creative resources. Utilization: Everything you bring to the session—your beliefs, behaviors, or even resistance—is used as a tool for change. Nothing is seen as an obstacle. Storytelling: The therapist uses metaphors and stories to communicate with your unconscious mind indirectly, helping you find your own solutions. In short, Ericksonian hypnotherapy is a personalized and respectful method that empowers you to heal and grow using your own mind's abilities.

How many Hypnosis sessions will I Need? While some issues can show significant improvement in a single session, it's important to have realistic expectations. The truth is, lasting, life-changing results typically take time. The mind is a delicate and essential part of who we are. Rushing the process can be counterproductive, potentially leading to confusion or a sense of disconnection. A safe, effective therapeutic journey is a gradual one, and it’s a red flag if a practitioner promises to "zap" your mind and fix complex issues instantly. For most people, a series of 4 to 6 sessions is needed to create deep, lasting change. For more complex issues like trauma and depression, it may take 10 to 12 sessions or even more. This gradual approach is designed to help you process information at a healthy pace, ensuring the benefits are integrated safely and effectively. This is often in stark contrast to other modalities where people are told they may never fully heal. To ensure you find a professional who is the right fit, it's a great idea to schedule a free 20-minute consultation. This allows you to discuss your needs and understand their approach to safe and sustainable healing.

What Happens To The Brain in Hypnosis?During hypnosis, the brain experiences several changes that facilitate a heightened state of focus and altered consciousness. One of the key transformations involves a shift from the Beta wave (associated with normal waking consciousness and active thinking) to Alpha and Theta waves, which are linked to relaxation and deep states of meditation. This shift allows the subconscious mind to become more accessible, making it possible to address deeply rooted issues and patterns.

Q: How does Somatic Patchwork & Hypnotherapy differ from other therapies?True Holistic Approach to Discomfort. At Somatic Patchwork & Hypnotherapy, we believe that true healing involves both the mind and the body. Our body-focused hypnotherapy is built on a crucial insight: most of our communication happens within the body itself. Did you know that only 20% of communication comes from the brain, while a remarkable 80% happens between different organs and parts of the body? Your gut and heart, for example, communicate extensively with your brain, and many of the brain's natural compounds are actually produced in your gut. Recognizing this intricate connection, our methods are designed to harness your body's natural healing processes while soothing your nervous system. By combining somatic (body-centered) techniques with hypnotherapy, we gently guide you toward reconnecting with your inner self and achieving lasting peace. This is different from therapies that are solely brain-focused, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (where thoughts create feelings and behaviors), or those that only focus on the nervous system, like Somatic Polyvagal Experiencing. Instead, Somatic Patchwork & Hypnotherapy offers a truly holistic, simultaneous up and down approach that works with both your mind and body at the same time.

What is the difference between Show Hypnosis and clinical Hypnosis?Imagine walking behind the scenes at a hypnosis show. The hypnotist entertainer screens 200 people from a stadium of over 1000 through a series of tests and elimination strategies, eventually narrowing it down to one person who is most likely to comply. Often, the selected individuals are not even hypnotized; they are part of the show. Sometimes, the hypnotist gets them to act like chickens or engage in other funny activities. The selected participants are often pressured by the crowd of thousands to perform, and they usually have a lot of fun. When the show is over, they receive some sort of gift, and the crowd is grateful for their participation. No therapeutic value is achieved here, and the hypnotist acts like a person of great power and authority that has control of people that are just complying. In contrast, a clinical hypnotherapist realises early in their career that they have no control over another human's mind. It is the therapist's innate knowledge and skill used in subconscious spaces, along with their understanding of nervous system responses, that you pay for to help bring about natural positive therapeutic change. Good Clinical hypnotherapists are often referred clients from GPs, specialists, or neurologists. t: The clinical hypnotherapist may need to review x-rays and other relevant information to meet legal and ethical requirements.

Why Can't Some People Be Hypnotised at certain times in their lives?Hypnosis is essentially self-hypnosis and requires active participation from the client. If you don't want to be hypnotised: If your partner made you come here, I would prefer to work with someone who makes their own appointments. If you came to prove that you can't be hypnotized, I am happy to offer strategic psychotherapy or refer you to a different practitioner. Please ask yourself, am I ready to make this change? Some of my favourite clients have come from a place where they cannot trust men: I understand. I remember sitting in the corner as far away as possible from a client in the therapy room, but at the end of the session, the client found that they had an ally in a man for the first time in many years. I definitely treat people without judgment. I give everyone a chance, including those who are neurodivergent ASD ADHD or of any gender orientation preference, culture or job title. Too stressed to connect: If you feel that you are too stressed to focus, we could work together in a somatic therapeutic experiencing way until the level of stress allows for focused attention.
